Worship Pastor and Real Estate Agent: Alex Mysinek Talks Minnesota Market and Marketing With Drew Robinson
The Career That Started With a Bad Real Estate Experience and a Wife Who Said You Can Do This Better
Alex Mysinek sat down with Drew Robinson of Worth Clark Realty for a conversation about what happens when a music marketing background and a ministry career collide with real estate. Drew works full time as a worship pastor at a local church while simultaneously running a real estate practice. Both are genuinely full-time commitments and the combination produces a professional who is unusually good at marketing, relationship building, and educating clients through one of the most complex processes most people ever navigate.
Drew got into real estate the way many agents do. A personal experience that was not good. He and his wife went through a home purchase and sale that left them feeling uninformed and unsupported at every step. His wife looked at him and said she thought he could do it better. He agreed and decided to find out.
The core motivation has not changed since day one. He got into real estate because he wanted to help people understand what they were signing and what was actually happening at each stage of the process. Educated clients come back. Confused clients do not.
What Music Marketing Taught Drew About Selling Homes
For years Drew has been on the music marketing side of his church's ministry team. They create original content and his job is to get it in front of the right people through the right channels at the right time. Cold calling radio stations. Cold calling promoters. Managing multiple social media channels simultaneously. Rolling out new plans as the industry shifts. Knowing when to push and when to pull back.
Every one of those skills transfers directly to listing a home. Great photos and video. Knowing which channels reach which buyers. Understanding timing. Recognizing when the current approach is not working and having the flexibility to change it rather than doing the same thing over and over hoping for a different result.
He also specifically mentioned Gen Z as an underserved buyer population that most agents are not targeting effectively. A subset of buyers is entering the market and the agents who figure out how to reach them early will build relationships that compound over years.
His philosophy on marketing himself is equally clear. He does not want to be the look at me superstar agent. He wants his results to do the talking. If he takes care of his clients the business takes care of itself.
What Most Agents Get Wrong When Listing a Home
The answer Drew gives is deceptively simple. Photos. The most elementary failure in home marketing is putting a listing on the market with photos that look like the photographer was not expected and the house was not prepared. Cluttered rooms. Poor lighting. Disorganized spaces. Photos that make buyers wonder why they would spend time scheduling a showing.
Drew goes further than most agents in solving this problem. He describes himself as the guy who gets things done and means it literally. He will go patch and paint a home if that is what it takes to get it ready for photography. If the sellers are out of town or overwhelmed by the process he will show up and handle what needs to be handled rather than dumping a list of tasks on clients who are already stressed.
The listing process is a partnership. His job is to resource his clients and when necessary to roll up his sleeves alongside them. That approach shows up in his reviews and it shows up in his results.
The Contingent Offer That Everyone Said Would Not Work
Drew shared a story that illustrates exactly what the getting things done reputation is built on.
His clients fell in love with a property. Multiple offers on the table. His clients needed to sell their existing home first. The conventional wisdom in a competitive market is that a contingent offer has almost no chance. Drew called the listing agent directly and asked for forty-eight hours.
That phone call was the pivot point. The listing agent was old school and appreciated being called rather than emailed. Drew talked about his clients, their situation, and why they deserved a chance. The agent was receptive. He gave them the weekend.
Drew went back to his clients' home, got it ready in two days, marketed it aggressively, held open houses, and sold it. The contingent offer closed. His clients got the home they wanted. He still drives by it sometimes and smiles when he sees what they have done with the place including a barn they converted into a studio space.
That is the story behind the reputation.
The Minnesota Market Right Now
Drew's read on the current Minnesota market is that it is more balanced than most sellers realize and more favorable for buyers than most buyers believe.
He is regularly getting buyers into homes under list price with full inspections, contingencies, and seller concessions included. Sellers who still expect to receive multiple offers within twelve hours of listing are operating on expectations built during a market that no longer exists in most price ranges.
The comparison he and Alex walked through is worth repeating. A buyer who paid ninety thousand over asking in 2022 with a five percent rate gave up inspection rights, competed against dozens of offers, and potentially ended up upside down when prices softened and rates climbed. A buyer today who gets under asking, keeps inspection contingencies, and receives seller paid closing costs at a six and a half percent rate is often in a materially better financial position when the full picture is evaluated. The rate is higher. The price, the terms, and the negotiating leverage are significantly better.
As Drew noted the oldest principle in real estate investment applies directly. Money is made at the buy. Getting in at a better price with better terms matters more than the rate headline suggests when you account for the full transaction.
What Drew Needs From a Lending Partner
Trust is the foundation and Drew is direct about what that means in practice. He vets the professionals in his sphere diligently because his reputation is attached to every referral he makes. The lender he recommends reflects on him with every client interaction.
He is looking for someone who will follow through in a timely way, educate his clients through the process, and know when to move quickly and when to let the client set the pace. If he would call someone himself in a moment of need that person meets the standard. If not it is not going to work regardless of rates or fees.
Communication is equally important on Alex's side. He noted that he will not start a referral relationship with any agent either. The trust has to be mutual and the communication has to be consistent for the partnership to serve both parties' clients at the level they deserve.
How Drew Builds His Business
Ninety percent referrals. The pay-at-close lead services he has tried produce one good client out of roughly ten inquiries. The rest are people looking for information rather than ready to transact. Drew treats those as slow burn relationships worth nurturing rather than leads to close immediately. The follow up is where the future business lives.
His sphere is broad by necessity. Years working across nonprofit, live production, video production, and music marketing have produced a wide network of contacts who know him and trust his work. That network is the foundation the referral business is built on.
Red Cow, a Good Burger, and a Walk to Coffee
Drew would go to Red Cow for dinner. Great burgers, great fries, a good bar, and if you pick the right location you can walk to a coffee shop for decaf afterward. He is the second guest on the podcast to name Red Cow which Alex noted with some amusement.
